Let’s face it, a roller rink in Ypsilanti can probably look like one in Austin

Tommy Kendrick, in his blog txactor.com, is complaining how Texas is not competitive with surrounding states New Mexico and Louisiana when it comes to attracting film production.

He says Texas needs to do what Michigan has done with tax credits to attract film companies to the state.

Kendrick writes, “Follow the money. It was recently reported that Drew Barrymore’s production, WHIP IT! starring Ellen Page was moving its production from Texas (Austin), where the story is set, to a location in Michigan. It seems that Michigan’s new 40% film incentive was just too much for the producers to turn down. For a 40% rebate, Michigan apparently starts to look a lot like Texas. Let’s face it, a roller rink in Ypsilanti can probably look like one in Austin.”

Tommy, we promise to keep Ypsi Weirder.
